Rudolph the Red-Nosed Thumbprints #christmas

Christmas is just a little over a week away, and I'm so excited, that I'm sharing yet another holiday recipe with you! This recipe is a part of the Good Cook Cookie Exchange; There are going to be a lot of festive cookie recipes shared by fellow bloggers, so you'll want to keep reading to find out where you can find all of the recipes. But for now, I give you my Rudolph the Red-Nosed Thumbprints.

This recipe is adapted from a recipe with the Taste of Home. I've switched it up quite a bit, making it my own holiday creation. The first step is to mix up the batter. You'll find a printable recipe below.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Thumbprints
Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup strawberry jam
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • Mini Pretzels
  • Black frosting or candy eyeballs
Instructions


  1. Cream butter and sugar; then beat in eggs, vanilla, and almond extract. Pythagoreans flour, baking powder, and salt, gradually adding to creamed mixure. Mix well.
  2. Take large pieces of dough and roll into 1-2 inch balls. Press each dough ball with the bottom of a glass. Press thumb into center of each cookie; Add strawberry jam to each thumbprint. Break pretzels into what look like antlers, and press onto top of each cookie.
  3. Place cookies onto ungreased cookie sheet, and bake at 350 ° for about 15-17 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. Sprinkle with just a bit of powdered sugar, if desired.
  4. After cookies have cooled, add eyes with black frosting, or you can use candy eyeballs. You can also choose to add a smile to each reindeer face. Just be creative and have fun with it!
